    How This Dice Roller Works

Rolling a physical die is random because tiny, uncontrollable differences in force, angle and bounce decide where it lands. A computer can't shake a die, so a good dice roller instead needs a source of randomness that's just as unpredictable. This tool uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator — the same kind of source used for security-sensitive code — rather than a simple clock-based function, so every face of every die keeps an exactly equal chance of coming up.

How to Use the Dice Roller

    1. Choose a die type — d4 through d100, or build a custom one.
    2. Set how many dice to roll at once, from 1 to 20.
    3. Add a modifier if your game needs a flat bonus or penalty.
    4. Press Roll (or hit Enter) and read the result.

Your last 20 rolls stay listed below the tool until you clear them or leave the page.

    Types of Dice

Standard tabletop games use seven common dice, each named for its number of sides. Pick one below to open a dedicated roller for that die, with notes on where it's typically used.

    Rolling Multiple Dice at Once

Plenty of games call for more than one die per turn — two for backgammon, five for Yahtzee, four for rolling a single D&D ability score. Set the dice count above to roll several of the same die together; every individual result is listed next to the combined total. For a version of this tool built around rolling large groups of dice, see the dedicated roll multiple dice page.

Dice Roller for D&D and Tabletop RPGs

Dungeons & Dragons and most tabletop role-playing games run on the same seven dice available here. TheD&D Dice Roller page adds quick guidance on which die to use for attack rolls, saving throws and weapon damage, plus tips for rolling with advantage or disadvantage. Need something outside the standard set — a d5, d7 or a die with your own labels? Try thecustom dice roller.

    Frequently asked questions

Is this dice roller actually random?

Yes. Every roll is generated with the browser's cryptographically secure random number source (crypto.getRandomValues), using rejection sampling so every face has an exactly equal chance — not a simple timer-based function that could be biased or predictable.

Can I roll more than one die at a time?

Yes, set the number of dice field to anything from 1 to 20. Each individual result is shown alongside the combined total, and you can add a flat modifier too.

Does this work for D&D and other tabletop games?

Yes. It supports every standard polyhedral die — d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 — and the dedicated D&D Dice Roller page adds quick guidance on which die to use for which roll.

Can I create a custom die?

Yes, the Custom Dice Roller lets you set any number of sides from 2 to 1000, or swap numbers for your own comma-separated labels.

Do I need to download an app?

No. This dice roller runs entirely in your browser — no install, no account and no sign-up required.

    Is this dice roller free?

Yes, completely free to use, with no limits on how many times you roll.
